The group of state schools to the north of the mighty Burdekin River are known as the Ayr Schools Cluster. This Cluster consists of Ayr State High School (est. 1937), ten (10) State Primary Schools, and the Burdekin Special School. Ayr Stare School was established in 1886 and with Ayr East State School are the two largest schools in the area.
It is important that all the state schools work together to promote and offer quality state education in the area from Prep to Year 12. As part of this a range of inter-school programs exist and significant amounts there is the Year 7è8 transition process. The Principals meet on a regular basis and a range of other professional meetings are program drawn.
