Ayr State High School is the largest and most popular school in the Burdikin area. Located in Ayr, 100 kilometres south-east of Townsville, has provided quality education services and options since 1932.

The school caters for the Middle Phase of Learning (year 8 & 9) and the senior Phase of Learning. Each academic cohort of about 125 students is educated by dedicated specialist teachers to enhance curriculum exposure and rigour in a wide variety of subject areas. The school is therefore able to offer all the benefits of a large school (broad range of subject choice and co-curricular activities) while enjoying the advantages of a small school (close personal relationships between teachers and students).

In an increasingly globalised community it is important for young people to develop an enhanced understanding of other cultures and races. We embrace this challenge through our Partners for Success initiatives that are continually being developed and monitored.

Our facilities, sophisticated ICT network, willingness to embrace innovation and change, and, above all, highly educated and dedicated staff, are what provides the essential difference at Ayr State High School.

Ayr State High School Statement of Purpose successfully defines our direction: A learning place where all members of the school community are expected to contribute to a tolerant and safe school environment, where socially, culturally and educationally inclusive opportunities provide learning outcomes for all.

The school is strongly focused on ensuring that student outcomes are not only maximised but that they surpass state standards.

As an educational institution, we have developed an organisational framework to clearly identify the educational environment in which students work. This framework is characterised by:

  • clear academic and social behaviour goals
  • order and discipline
  • high expectations
  • pervasive caring
  • community support
  • high quality teaching
  • high quality and quantity learning time
  • a coherently organised curriculum
  • regular and monitored homework
  • opportunities for student excellence
  • appropriate reward systems
  • clear communication between home and school
  • a wide variety of co-curricular options

We believe our students should be:

  • Committed learners
  • Goal oriented
  • Self-disciplined
  • Responsible and personally accountable
  • Well behaved
  • Aware of their personal appearance
  • Caring and respectful of selves and others
  • Honest and reliable

It is our hope that students graduating from our school will be:

  • Employable
  • Qualified for further education & training
  • Skilled in ICT
  • Socially responsible
  • Self motivated
  • Socially, culturally & globally aware
  • Environmentally active
  • Hard working and committed

We are ready to form a productive partnership with students and parents to together provide the best opportunities for all of our clients. We have many more stories or success and information to share with you about our great school and we ask that you take up the challenge of becoming fully informed about the offerings our school can provide for ALL students.

State Education means a diverse and quality education for every student.

Yours sincerely
