Rationale
This course is designed to equip students with the ability to:
- Communicate effectively and interact confidently in the business environment.
- Use a range of business information technologies appropriate to private and public administration sectors.
- Apply a range of individual and group strategies to resolve issues and complete tasks.
- Use reasoning processes to develop solutions to problems encountered within a business environment.
After BCT?
BCT graduates have access to a variety of employment opportunities in a range of industries including Public Administration, Legal, Banking, Retail, Health Care, Travel, Tourism/Hospitality, Insurance. Further opportunities exist in tertiary study in the areas of Business Management, Human Resource Management and Administration.
Course Outline
Each semester includes study from the following areas.
- Technology Applications: Basic Computer Operations; Keyboard Skills; Levels 1-3 in Word Processing; Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentation Software.
- Business Environments: Structure and Organisation of Business, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Relations.
- Communication: Communication Techniques and Technologies, Work-Team Communications Skills, International Business Communication.
- Business Administration & Procedures: Bank Reconciliation; Accounts Receivable and Payable; Banking Procedures; Records Management/ Mail; Meeting Procedures; Organisational Skills.
Successful completion of the embedded units of competency will allow students to attain Certificate II in Business BSB20107.
Access to special equipment is required for some topics eg scanner, computer, internet. These may be accessed at home, or during a student’s own time at school. A USB Flash drive is considered essential.
