E-mail Print PDF

COURSE OUTLINE
Intercultural investigations aims to lead students into an awareness of the cultural differences that exist in our society.  An understanding of cultural differences in values, attitudes, beliefs, and language aims to better equip students to live as contributing citizens in Australia’s multicultural society.
A feature of the course is the heavy integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) use, which aims to develop an ability in students to operate effectively in today’s information rich environments.  Students will develop a range of technological skills and knowledge through their contextual studies in this subject, and will be asked to use different technological mediums to express ideas and be creative.

Topics of Study
Cultural contexts over the course of study will include our Australian Culture as well as another targeted culture which could be European, Asian or American.  These units of study will include investigation of the language, customs, values, attitudes and beliefs of each of the context areas.
During the course, a range of ICT skills and techniques will be reinforced through study in these different cultural contexts.  Each unit of study will immerse the student in the chosen culture, with relevant ICT use, integrated to enhance student learning experiences.
Integrated ICT use employed to engage students and offer meaningful, learner-centred tasks may include:

  • Spreadsheets and Statistics - students will learn the skills necessary to best represent data for particular users
  • Computers in a Global Environment - students aim to gain an understanding of the operation of computers and the internet, and how these can best be used to enhance knowledge
  • Multimedia - the cohesive nature of digital resources will be investigated, and students will experiment with different software to create multimedia products
  • DVD Authoring - students will develop a digital folio of their work for the year
  • Online Communication - participate in blogs with students from other countries
