Rationale
This subject aims to prepare students to meet the rapid change in information technology and be responsive to emerging technologies and trends as well as understand specialist and technical aspects of the area. It approaches the areas of study through problem solving and project management processes. There is an emphasis on the importance of working individually and in teams, communicating effectively and developing productive relationships with clients.
This course incorporates learning how to use software and hardware in a client focused context. Students wishing to learn just about software should consider the subject “Information and Communications Technology”. There is only a minor programming component this course.
Course Outline
Semester 1
Relational Databases, User Documentation. Macros and Templates
Semester 2
Multimedia Concepts, Project Management, Advanced Animation (Flash with action scripting)
Semester 3
Web Design Principles, Development and Evaluation of Web Site (some dynamic content), Networking concepts
Semester 4
Networking Systems (peer to peer and server-client), Computer Architecture.
Successful completion of the embedded units of competency will allow students to attain Certificate II in Information Technology. (ICA20105)
Special Equipment – Access to a computer and the Internet at home is essential. Software relevant to the course can often be purchased through the school. A USB flash drive is essential.
