At Ayr High, Geography is offered to Year 9 and 10 students. Students have the opportunity to study a range of topics and develop relevant historical skills during the two year course.

Excursions
Students have the opportunity to enter the field and complete field work activities. In Year 9, students visit the Bowling Green Bay National Park at Alligator Creek and complete activities related to their study of Australian environments.
In Year 10, students visit Wunjunga (south of Home Hill) as part of their study of coastal environments and management strategies to sustain this environment for future generations. As part of their assessment, students created power points which highlight the type of coastal environment found at Wunjunga as well as highlighting environmental problems and suggesting solutions to better manage this environment.
Competitions
As part of studying Geography, students participate in the National Geographic Channel Australian Competition. This competition involves students examining stimulus material and answering multiple choice questions.
This year, six students did extremely well. Josh Great and Luke Anscombe, year 9 students, both received High Distinction certificates. Their results placed them in the top 11% in the country.
Tiffany Muir, Laura Bromham (Yr 10) and Mitchell Parison and Cassie Fletcher (Yr 9) all received Credit certificates for their efforts.

In Year 10, four students who have achieved extremely well in Geography may have the opportunity to participate in the Young Diplomat Program run by JCU.
