At Ayr High, Legal Studies is offered to Year 11 and 12 students. Students have the opportunity to study a range of topics and develop relevant legal skills during the two year course.

Excursions
As part of the course, students visit the Townsville Law Courts in term 1. A visit to either the Townsville Police Station or Stuart Prison is also part of this excursion.![]()
The students had the opportunity to sit in on several Magistrate Court cases as well as touring the Supreme Court and talking to a real live Judge!
At the Townsville Police Station, students were shown how police operate such as how to take finger prints in the 21st century and where the 000 calls are taken.
At the prison, students are shown the role of the patrol dogs and the extensive prison security system including razor wire!
In 2009, the year 12 Legal Studies were fortunate enough to attend the inaugural Legal Studies Students Conference held at JCU. Here they attended lectures about many legal topics such as the Coroner’s Court, the legalities of Schoolies Week and the real CSI.
This year six Year 12 Legal Studies students will also be going to Brisbane in the September holidays for four days. While in Brisbane they will visit the Law Courts, Police Museum, St Helena’s Island and other places of legal importance.
