The Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association is a volunteer body formed under the Education Act. The prime role of the Association is to help and assist the students and the school. The P&C is also the official parent voice for the school.
As stated in the Act the P&C has Objectives and Functions and the important elements are:

Section 120 Objectives of an Association
The objectives of an association are to promote the interests of, and
facilitate the development and further improvement of, the State
instructional institution, or proposed State instructional institution, for
which it is formed.
Section 121 Functions of an Association
- An association has the following functions-
- fostering community interest in educational matters;
- trying to bring about closer cooperation between –
- for an association formed for a State school – the parents of children attending the school and other members of the community, staff members of the school and students of the school; or
- for an association formed for an educational institution established under section 14 – members of the community and staff members of the institution;
- In the performance of its functions, an association must comply with this Act and any written directions the Minister may give the association.
